Configuring Database Mail

Using Database Mail, DataSight databases can send e-mail messages to users. These messages can contain query results, and can also include DataSight files.

To setup Database Mail:

1. Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and connect to your server.
2. Expand the Management folder of the tree and right-click on Database Mail. From the drop-down menu select Configure Database Mail.

3.The Welcome to Database Mail Configuration Wizard screen appears, click Next.

4. In the 'Select Configuration Task' screen select Set up Database Mail by performing the following tasks and click Next.

If Database Mail has not been enabled, you will get this following screen. Click Yes to enable the Database Mail feature.

5. In the New Profile dialogue box enter a Profile name along with a Description. Then click Add...

6. Fill out the mail account details within the New Database Mail Account dialogue box. These are the mail settings that will be used to send out email from the SQL Server. When you are done click OK.

7. This will return you to the New Profile window. The SMTP account details for the new account you just setup will now be displayed. Click Next to continue.

8. The next window displays the Profile Security options available for the new mail account. Click on the checkbox to allow this to be a Public profile and also select Yes for the default profile. Then click Next.

9. The Configure System Parameters dialogue box will open displaying the options for the new mail account. These control how mail is sent, including prohibiting certain file types and restricting file size. You can make changes to any of these parameters or leave the defaults. When you are done click Next.

10. A summary screen will appear that shows you all of the options that were selected. If everything is correct, click Finish, or click Back to go back and make changes.

11. When you click Finish an installation status window will be displayed. When this installation is compelte you can click Close.

You have now set up Database Mail for SQL 2005. To ensure the configuration has been successful, send a Test E-Mail
